A wall hanging Egyptian woven carpet, created by the children of the carpet school, yes this carpet is flat, a work of art to have such a great 3D effect.
These children have no schools to educate them and the carpet school takes them in as they are interested to learn something, they are educated in the skills required and other education like reading and writting while there, they receive meals and are taken back to their families in the small communities everyday. Once they are older and have acquired the skills needed they are given equipment and yarns to take home and start to produce for themselves and sell to help their families to live.
The person who now manages this school was once a small child student himself.
They use profits from carpet sales to keep the school operational as no Government assistance is offered.
A couple of the older teenage boys weaving a carpet that can take up to 3 months to complete, working on it most days up to 7 hours a day to complete, how is that for teaching patiance and commitment!!
This carpet school, located near the ancient area of Sakkara.
